Record instruments online and download your playing
Every instrument on HarmonyHub has a record button. Press record, play, then listen back, save the take or download it as an audio file, all in the browser with nothing to install.
The recorder takes the sound straight from the instrument, so takes are clean even in a noisy room, and it can mix in your microphone if you allow it, so you can sing or talk over what you play. Takes are kept in your browser, and signed-in players can also save them to their own Google Drive.
How to record on a virtual instrument
- Open an instrument, for example the piano, guitar or tabla.
- Press Record. Allow microphone access if you want your voice in the take; it is optional.
- Play. Pause and resume whenever you need to.
- Recording stops by itself at the time limit: 5 minutes by default, adjustable from 1 to 10 minutes.
- Press Stop, then Play to listen back, and Save or Download the take.
Recording formats and limits
- Files are saved in the format your browser records, usually WebM with the Opus codec. Some browsers produce M4A or Ogg instead.
- Without an account you can keep up to 20 recordings in your browser. Takes older than 30 days are cleared.
- Signed in with Google, you can also upload each take to your own Google Drive.
- The recordings page lets you search, sort, filter by instrument, rename, delete and play takes back at 0.5x to 2x speed.
Recording a jam session
In a live music room, the room recorder captures what your microphone hears during the session and downloads it as a WebM file, so you can keep a copy of the jam.
Frequently asked questions
Can I record myself playing a virtual instrument?
Yes. Press Record on any instrument page, play, then press Stop. You can listen back straight away, save the take or download it.
What audio format are the recordings?
Recordings use the format your browser supports, usually WebM (Opus), sometimes M4A or Ogg. HarmonyHub does not convert to MP3; if you need MP3, convert the downloaded file with any audio converter.
Do I need an account to record?
No. Anyone can record and download. Without an account up to 20 takes are kept in your browser; signing in lets you also save takes to Google Drive.
How long can a recording be?
Up to 10 minutes. The default limit is 5 minutes, and you can change it from 1 to 10 minutes before recording.
Can I record my voice with the instrument?
Yes. If you allow microphone access, the recorder mixes your microphone with the instrument, so singing or narration ends up in the same take.
